"Because you’re bad?"

I probably should just start these with the time that we actually leave the house each morning and spare you those details since they seem to be the same.  This one is slightly different.  We were able to get all of our stuff packed and out the door and ready before checkout at 10 am.  This is a small, maybe a large miracle for us.    (It's almost 10 pm - and for some reason, I am pretty tired - on the other hand, this place seems to have good internet.  The welcome book said "Super fast internet," and I laughed because, well, it's Scotland, but so far, things seem good.  I was actually able to download some stuff pretty easily - fingers crossed).

We had about an hour and change to our first stop Bolsover Castle.  I had been wanting to come to this one - because I thought that it had a well preserved moat, it did not.  Many of the places that you could walk in the castle were blocked off because it was falling apart.  We got around to every spot we could - the boys enjoying the start of the foundations on portions of the castle that were never completed.   We got to the shop - and I am not sure why Jess stopped in on the way out.  I think she was overrun by the heathens who wanted to go into the store.  There was a slight "discussion" about getting them swords.  In the end, the walked out to go walk around the castle and Daddy bought the swords.  It's fun time!

This one has no fear.

The next couple of hours were spent in the car heading down to Newton Steward in Dumfries and Galloway.  We tried to go to to ruins Greenan Castle and ended up in a high class caravan holiday park, with its own go kart track and Dunure - which you could see from the road.  Hopefully, we will be able to see the two when we head out of town.

2/3 of the heathens were sleeping so we continued on out way to Culzean Castle.   By the time Malcolm finished crying because he was woken up and we got out of the car and ready to move, we we had arrived just in time to see the deer, llamas and highland coos get fed.  It was pretty cool because they were waiting to see the highland coos.  Duncan was having a ball talking to them.  We are not sure exactly what he was saying, but he was saying a lot to them.  Neil and Malcolm were excited because we touched the highland coos horn through the fence.

We headed in to the castle for the lego hunt. Not to see the castle, just to run through really fast, miss everything and find the lego figures.  This is exactly what we did.  Culzean is seen in many places. It's beautiful, on the water and if every person I knew chipped in, we still couldn't afford it.  It was so huge I can’t imagine how many rooms they didn’t show.

The first room you enter is adorned in these patterns of guns and knives of different lengths.  It was really awesome and makes you wonder how they came in to possession of so many weapons.

Duncan thought the mini cannons were a spyglass - when he realized that he couldn't see anything he tried to listen to them.  I was laughing my ass off.

Napo

This guy's name was Archibald

Apparently, even back then they had trouble changing a two year olds diaper.

We went down the the playground adventure area for the kids - it was awesome.  There was a huge play castle area, with lots of stuff to explore, slides, climbing stuff, swings, a sand pit area.  It was a good break in the day for them.  There was a separate are for kids five and up.  Apparently, this is where Neil disappeared to when we first got there and I couldn't find him because I was watching Duncan and Jess was getting snacks.  Neil asked if I would go back there with him when Jess got back.  I did and it was pretty cool.

I couldn't take a lot of pics because I needed to keep up with them.
The boys made me go through the adventure area with them.  We had a good time.  The second time I went through with Neil and Malcolm and there was another family behind us.  The mom was Asian and she had a heavy Scottish accent.  It was crazy.  And I had to start laughing because it's just not what you expected her to sound like.  It reminded my of my friend Shnique Clarke's story about the Chinese population in Jamaica and that there are Chinese people with Jamaican accents.  I refused to believe her and said there is no way.  She swore to me that it was true and she wouldn't lie (and I believe she said has some family who fit the description - but I could be lying and making that up).  I didn't believe her until I saw it on youtube.  As I tried to squeeze myself through kid sized shit on the obstacle course, I tried to decide which was more trippy, and Asian person with a Scottish accent or a Chinese person with a Jamaican accent.  The Jamaican accent wins - you should google it for yourself.  I'm glad that she and I have our love of traveling to share - she's been to some cool places that I would like to hit - that I think I would need to wait until the kids were older and can handle their own stuff.

On the ride in, we overheard this beauty and we couldn't stop laughing.  Even Duncs joined in.
While playing a game on his iPad:

Neil: "Oh man, why do I keep dying?"
Malcolm:  "Because you’re bad?"

We started dying.  No nap Neil didn't find that as funny as we did.  The line could have been used multiple times today.

Why don't I get a gummy?  - "Because you’re bad?"

Why is Malcolm crying?
"I don't know." - "Because you’re bad?"

Why can't I use the sword?  - "Because you’re bad?"

Etc.

We also drove past this - and I had to take a picture because it is the cause of so much controversy...:

We made it down to the house, and the boys were excited to meet the owner's kids who were 3.5 and 10 months.  They promptly headed into the walled garden (yes, you heard that right) and played football (proper) while I unpacked the car.  After chatting, Jess headed out to get the food, the kids came over with their dad and their cousins who were there and there was a ton of football to be had.  Neil, No Nap started to melt down a bit and after a time out of thirty, mama finally made it home.  It was dinner and showers (which didn't go so well with Neil).  When I put those two in bed - he didn't even want to read, he passed right out.

We are staying at the Gardener's Cottage at Corvisel House.  The house actually has some history to it and I will post some pictures tomorrow if I can.  This is the link for the realty listing (owners have had it for about ten months).  I was going to do some more research, but this snippet from their welcome packet should tell the bulk of the story:

The Rear Admiral had quite a career and I believe lost an arm and an eye.  He fought at Trafalgar and other battles, this one being the one he may have been most noted for.  Pretty cool - I doubt he ever slept in one of the rooms in the cottage.  Indefatigable -  unlike my kids.

However, he was BAD!
