This actually is Deja Vu...

I know I have mentioned deja vu before but today, there are quite a few instances of it - and I am not complaining.

This morning we got out way later than planned.  Of course this is somehow my fault  because Duncan and I slept until after 8.  I have always made the rule that if I am sleeping and I need to wake up, then wake me.  It's vacation, I am not setting an alarm.  In addition, I didn't get to bed until 1:30 because I was waiting for the shitty internet to do its thing and upload the photos.  It was really terrible.

As I sat down for breakfast and waited for some more photos to go up, Malcolm announced in his whiny crying voice , “I don’t want to go to any more castles...”. He was informed to get over it, and quickly because we have about two more weeks of it.

Once the showering was done, we packed the car and got ready to leave.  I'm dreading the car rides at this point because it is torture.  Torture.  Every fucking day we have to hear, “Now I can’t see with this eye...”.  How many fucking times can you kick someone or get kicked by someone to realize that it’s a bad fucking idea?

I said to Jess today that we should take their sneakers off because of the mud - then I said, forget it.  If they hit heel bone to cheek bone, they are going to get cut and we are going to have to take someone for stitches.  It doesn't matter.  They still don't get it.

So we are off and on our way to Dunnottar Castle.  If you follow the link, you can read about our time here with Neil in 2013.  Some things changed - at one point in the castle, I remember that you could hike up another level - and no that it blocked off.  There was another spot that had scaffolding up - it's down now, but it is still in the room.  The DoE must run the maintenance in this place.  We walked around, showed Neil where he picked up his soccer ball on our last trip and then continued to walk around.  The place is awesome and by itself is a reason to visit Scotland.

This kid only wants to make silly faces

Once we were done inside the castle, Neil decided that he wanted to head down the trail that led to the water which he saw when we first arrived.  He and I did, Jess and Malcolm continued on the 180 step trek back up.  Duncan was asleep in the carrier on my back.  I let Neil climb on the rocks a little and then we found a cave at the bottom of the cliff.  If I didn't have Duncan with us and we had a better light, I definitely would have explored it more.  I am not sure how far back it went - I'm guessing not a lot, but it was still cool and might have helped to get him more excited about hiking.

I saw this picture today and said "Hoy shit!  My whole head is gray!"

When we got back to the top, they headed out and I walked down the shoreline a bit to get some more pictures.  I wanted to go to another spot that jutted out into the sea but I didn't because I knew they would be whining to leave.  All three of them.

We got everyone hooked up with lunch and in their seats and headed on the road.  We stopped to get Jess food - she grabbed beer and shortcake for the boys.  Just shortcake for the boys, the beer was for me and she got the best food of the trip for herself - this because the boys ate all the sandwiches, some of which were designated for her.

This is minor stupidity in the car - but it is stupidity nonetheless.  They were all tired, I get it - but WTF?  That was the tail end of like 10 minutes of foolishness.  I had to get out of the car and let them do their thing for a minute.  I would have gotten out if it was pouring too.

We headed to Falkland Palace.  This was the hunting lodge and get away of the Stuarts.   The inside of the palace was well preserved and there was some awesome wood mouldings and ceilings that I would have loved to have in my house.  There was a lego search for the boys.  This was tough because the lighting inside the place was dark.  Otherwise it was pretty common - but definitely different looking, more Renaissance.  Generally not my style, but still cool to see.  The town looked pretty but by the time were were done with the visit, it was raining and time to get on the road so that we could head to our next stop,  Balerno.

The apothecary,,,

That's the place that we went to dinner in the last time we were here.  We walked down the pedestrian street - now, our lodgings are on it.  This is my favorite place yet - who else leaves you beer as part of your welcome package!!!

We decided to get some take out - because eating out with them when they are tired and hungry is a coimpleted shit show - so Jess got some Chinese food and the boys and I got food from the Balerno Fry - I'll let you guess what I had.  Neil got his burger and the other two got chicken nuggets.  It was pretty good.    Neil is also convinced that he now speaks Gaelic.  He knows how to say two words cheers and Duncan - and that means he speak Gaelic.  He'll say things with a really terrible accent - its funny as hell, but it's not Gaelic.

Deja Vu - so here is the street that we have been to before - five years ago, the three of us strolled down this street after visiting the Grey Horse Inn.

As we were lying in bed getting everyone to calm down, we hear Duncan yelling and then slam into the bedroom door.  Neil starts laughing and says, "Oh man, that must have hurt!"  I say, "It's not funny."  To which he replies, "It's a little funny."

He's right.
